I would like Domino to have native XML support equivalent to the pureXML feature in DB2. This would include the following enhancements.
  • Add a new "XML" note item type that would store a complete XML document in a structured format.
  • Allow for defining view indexes based on XPath expressions.
  • Provide a way to query for XML data using XQuery syntax.
  • Add Domino Object Model classes and methods to access those features.
All of the world's data is increasingly in XML format. Adding native XML support to Domino would really open up a whole new class of applications. For example, our applications store clinical healthcare data such as lab results. We would like to be able to store those lab results in HL7 CDA R2 format and then execute an XQuery query to find all of the lab results in the past six months where the blood glucose level was over 140mg/dl. With Domino 8.X that sort of query just isn't practical (at least not in real time) so we are forced to use DB2 instead.

Actually you don't need a new XML note type. Once DXL processing reaches 100% fidelity, you can store a note as DXL inside a DB/2 pureXML. That would be a full featured NSFDB2.

This idea isn't directly related to DXL. I'm not suggesting a new XML note type, but rather a new XML item type. This would allow storing a complete XML document of any type within a single Domino document item. The DB2 pureXML feature works in a very similar way: you can create table fields with an "XML" data type and then store a complete XML document in each record.
